Metallica came on around 10:00, and ended two minutes before midnight. The screens tuned in to Times Square to watch the ball drop, and then the stage filled with circus entertainers. Then, all the bands came on stage at the end for a jam session, playing Kiss' classic "Detroit Rock City". Metallica ended the act with "Phantom Lord". It is rumored that Metallica was so impressed with the crowd, they are considering using the footage for the band's next album and video.
